The Virgin Islands Government alongside the British Virgin Islands Airports Authority is closely observing the advancements of the eagerly anticipated upgrade to the airport, and has selected KPMG (BVI) Ltd for executing the necessary enhancements on this significant initiative.

After a thorough selection process involving eight (8) distinguished firms, KPMG (BVI) was chosen for the task and is set to begin the development activities. The plan is to finalize the business case within an upcoming period of three (3) months, adhering to the United Kingdom’s five-case framework. This step is vital for ensuring a well-planned and strategic execution of the airport expansion.

The Communications and Works Minister, Honourable Kye Rymer, shared his excitement about reaching this critical phase of the project. He highlighted the importance of following the Government’s Financial Management Protocols to ensure efficient use of funds throughout the project and maintained his dedication to openness, accountability, and optimal resource utilization for the advancement of the British Virgin Islands.

Minister Rymer stated, “It’s gratifying to see our persistence pay off, reaching a point where we can appoint a capable firm to lead us in the airport development.”

He further stressed the significance of maintaining governance principles and was satisfied that the Government’s Financial Management Protocols were respected during the selection process. “By prioritizing value for money and enhancing accountability in government operations, we are ensuring a prudent approach,” remarked Honourable Rymer.

Mr. Theodore Burke, the Board Chairman, resonated with the minister’s views, assuring a smooth and transparent process in line with the Government’s financial guidelines.

Mr. Burke said, “We are dedicated to ensuring that every step taken in this project reflects our responsibility to the public we serve. The Board will continue to champion this project until it is brought to fruition.”

Meanwhile, Managing Director Mr. Kurt Menal highlighted the wealth of information already available to facilitate the process. He said “Our team at the Authority is armed with a wealth of information gleaned from various studies undertaken previously. This source of knowledge serves as a robust foundation for informed decision-making throughout the development process.”

Mr. Menal added, “The availability of this information not only streamlines the current project but also positions us strategically for long-term success. It ensures that every step taken is rooted in a deep understanding of our unique challenges and opportunities.”

In the near future, the British Virgin Islands Airports Authority and KPMG (BVI) Ltd. are expected to formalize their collaboration with a contract signing, marking an important step towards achieving a modern and efficient airport infrastructure in the Territory.
