For the seventh consecutive year, Montréal has clinched the top spot as the premier host destination for international association events in North America, according to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

Despite the uncertainties that have plagued the business tourism and event industries, 2022 marked a significant resurgence in international conventions in Montréal. The Palais des congrès de Montréal, along with the city’s hotels and universities, played host to 56 events and welcomed 41,656 international delegates. This outstanding performance catapulted Montréal to the pinnacle of the ICCA’s esteemed ranking. Globally, Montréal secured the 14th position for the number of attendees hosted and the 24th position for the number of events. Surpassing destinations like Toronto, Vancouver, Boston, Chicago, Mexico City, Tokyo, Glasgow, and Zurich, Montréal solidified its standing as a premier international event host.

The key to this remarkable success lies in the close collaboration among Tourisme Montréal, the Palais des congrès de Montréal, and the entire business tourism ecosystem. The collective expertise, creativity, and professionalism of these teams resulted in innovative and dynamic solutions that raised the city’s profile. Notable events such as the 104th Lions Clubs International Annual Convention, AIDS 2022 – the 24th International AIDS Conference, the International Cybersecurity Forum (the first in North America), and the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) contributed not only to maximizing economic benefits but also to generating social and intellectual advantages. Tourisme Montréal and the Palais des congrès take pride in fostering the city’s reputation, highlighting its unique strengths, and contributing to societal advancement through these impactful events.
