At Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique celebrated significant progress in the creation of the MSC World Class vessels, MSC World America and MSC World Asia. A key event was the float out of MSC World America at the Saint-Nazaire shipyard in France on April 7, 2024. This milestone ushers the ship into the final stretch of its construction, leading up to its formal christening on April 9, 2025, at the cutting-edge PortMiami terminal of MSC Cruises. The ceremony will precede a voyage to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, a private island in The Bahamas recognized for the MSC Foundation’s Super Coral Program and named a ‘Hope Spot’ by Mission Blue.

In a parallel development, the construction of MSC World Asia commenced with the steel-cutting ceremony. This ship, the third in the World Class series, is expected to be delivered in 2026 and aims to embody the essence of its continent through unique design and onboard experiences. Although its operational routes are yet to be announced, MSC World Asia is designed to celebrate the spirit of Asia.

The revolutionary MSC World America is set to be the largest vessel by MSC Cruises to operate in the U.S. and the brand’s first in the region to utilize LNG power, reflecting MSC Cruises’ commitment to sustainability and innovation. Tailored for the North American market, it will feature a mix of European design and American comfort across its 22 decks, more than 2,600 staterooms, and expansive public spaces.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises commented, “MSC World America is another example of the incredible professional partnership between us and the Chantiers de l’Atlantique with whom we have designed five distinct and innovative prototypes – the most recent being the ground-breaking World Class platform. With each and every ship we strive to improve and enhance not only the environmental technology but also new features that enrich the experience for the guest as we design for the future holiday experience. MSC World Asia continues in this tradition and with this important milestone of the steel cutting we are pleased to confirm that she will offer even more advanced new features in terms of future-proof marine and onboard hospitality technologies as well as guest experiences.”

Laurent Castaing, General Manager, Chantiers de l’Atlantique commented, “We are very proud to begin construction on MSC World Asia. The third ship in the World Class series will feature cutting-edge technologies, making it one of the cleanest, most energy-efficient ships in the world. She embodies MSC Cruises’ and Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s long-term partnership and commitment toward the environment.”

The World Class ships stand out for their distinctive design, including a unique plumb bow and a stylish Y-shaped aft leading to a vast outdoor promenade. These floating urban metropolises offer an array of experiences, with the MSC World America boasting the largest Yacht Club in the fleet, providing an exclusive “ship-within-a-ship” concept with premium comfort and breathtaking ocean views.

MSC World Europa and MSC World America are at the forefront of reducing the cruise industry’s carbon footprint, a standard MSC World Asia is set to exceed, reinforcing the line’s dedication to environmental stewardship. As the fourth LNG-powered ship in MSC Cruises’ fleet, MSC World Asia represents a significant step towards maritime decarbonization, with advanced dual-fuel engines designed to minimize emissions and methane slip.

In addition to environmental advancements, all new MSC Cruises ships, including MSC World America and MSC World Asia, will feature shore power connectivity to reduce port emissions and incorporate smart technology to enhance guest comfort while optimizing energy and water usage. The onboard recycling program and marine-friendly propeller designs further exemplify MSC Cruises’ commitment to sustainability and marine conservation.
