Budva Riviera Sets New Tourism Records
One of the best performances by Budva Riviera in Montenegro has been seen in terms of tourists who have visited the place in the first eight months of 2026, numbering 815,916. Tourists came from 205 different nations, and the number has increased by anywhere between 17% and 20% from the same period, while the tourism tax has reached a record of €2.47 million.
Visitor Numbers Rise Across The Riviera
The latest eight-month performance review from the Tourist Organisation of the Municipality of Budva shows continued growth across one of Montenegro’s best-known coastal tourism areas.
The increase places Budva Riviera among the destinations experiencing strong international visitor movement during the 2026 travel season. The figures cover registered visitors and reflect the scale of accommodation-based tourism across the Riviera.
For Montenegro, the performance also highlights the continued importance of the Adriatic coast within the country’s wider tourism economy.
Tourism Revenue Reaches A New High
Tourism tax collections reached €2.47 million during the eight months, representing a 6% increase compared with the previous year.
The revenue provides another measure of the Riviera’s tourism activity alongside visitor arrivals. Tourist taxes are generally connected with overnight stays, meaning the increase reflects activity within the region’s accommodation and visitor economy.
Hotels, apartments, restaurants, attractions, transport providers and other tourism businesses all form part of the network supporting visitors arriving in Budva.
Serbia Remains A Major Source Market
Visitors from Serbia continued to represent one of the largest individual international markets for the Budva Riviera, with arrivals increasing by 19%.
The geographical proximity between Serbia and Montenegro supports regular travel between the two countries, particularly during the summer holiday period. Visitors can reach Montenegro by road, making Budva and the wider Adriatic coast accessible for longer holidays and shorter coastal breaks.
The strong Serbian market also contributes to a broader regional tourism network linking Montenegro with neighbouring Balkan countries.
Russian Arrivals Continue To Grow
Russian visitors recorded a 34% increase during the period, maintaining Russia among the Riviera’s largest individual source markets.
The growth adds to the diversity of Budva’s international visitor base, which now extends across European and non-European markets.
Budva’s coastal setting, beaches, accommodation options and nightlife have long made it an established destination for international leisure travellers. Its position on Montenegro’s Adriatic coast also allows visitors to combine a beach holiday with excursions to historic towns, mountains and other coastal locations.
Western Europe Shows Strong Momentum
Some of the most notable increases came from Western European markets.
Visitors from Poland increased by 83%, while arrivals from Italy rose by 59%. The Netherlands recorded growth of 51%, and visitors from the United Kingdom increased by 25%.
These figures broaden the Riviera’s visitor profile beyond its traditional regional markets.
The growth from Poland is particularly notable within the latest performance figures, while increases from Italy, the Netherlands and the UK indicate stronger movement from several established European travel markets.
Budva Connects Coast And Culture
Budva itself remains the central tourism hub of the Riviera.
The Old Town provides a historic counterpoint to the area’s beaches, resorts and waterfront attractions. Visitors can combine time on the Adriatic coast with walks through medieval streets, cultural sightseeing and excursions to nearby destinations.
The wider Riviera also offers access to coastal communities and scenic viewpoints, allowing visitors to explore beyond the central resort area.
This combination gives Budva a tourism profile that extends beyond conventional beach holidays.
Montenegro Offers More Than Coastal Tourism
The strength of Budva Riviera also connects with Montenegro’s wider tourism offering.
Visitors can travel from the coast towards mountain regions, national parks, historic towns and inland landscapes. This allows a holiday based in Budva to become part of a broader Montenegro itinerary.
Kotor, Perast and Cetinje are among the destinations that can be incorporated into coastal and cultural journeys, while the country’s mountainous interior provides opportunities for hiking and nature-based travel.
For international visitors, Montenegro’s relatively compact geography makes multi-destination holidays practical.
A Broader European Visitor Base
The 2026 figures indicate that Budva’s tourism market is becoming increasingly diverse.
With visitors recorded from 205 countries, the Riviera is drawing travellers from a wide range of international markets rather than depending on a single geographic region.
Growth from Poland, Italy, the Netherlands and the UK adds to established demand from Serbia and Russia, creating a broader European foundation for the destination.
This diversity can also support tourism businesses across different seasons by creating demand from markets with varying holiday calendars and travel preferences.
The Adriatic Remains Central To Budva’s Appeal
The Adriatic coastline remains the defining element of Budva’s tourism identity.
Beaches, clear waters, waterfront dining and coastal excursions form the foundation of the visitor experience, while historic architecture and nearby mountain landscapes add variety.
The Riviera’s accommodation network also allows visitors to choose between city stays, resort properties and smaller accommodation options across the coastal area.
With visitor numbers rising and tourism tax collections reaching a new record, the 2026 season is demonstrating the scale of international demand for this part of Montenegro.
Budva Enters A Strong New Tourism Chapter
The first eight months of 2026 at Budva Riviera have shown that the destination is experiencing a surge in both the number of tourists and tourism taxes collected from some major European sources. The fact that there have been a total of 815,916 tourists from 205 countries who arrived at the destination shows its vast international appeal. In addition, increased numbers from Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, and the UK are changing the face of European tourists visiting the Adriatic coastline of Montenegro. The future of Budva lies in connecting the beaches, heritage and coastal scenery of Montenegro.
