Network Rail Consulting, California, Rail Program

Network Rail Consulting Inc, a subsidiary of Network Rail Consulting in the US, has secured a $73.2 million (£57.5 million) contract to provide systems engineering services for California’s High-Speed Rail Program.

The program aims to establish the first dedicated high-speed railway in the United States, connecting the Los Angeles basin with San Francisco at speeds of up to 200 mph. Later phases will extend the network to Sacramento and San Diego. With construction already underway, Network Rail Consulting Inc will play a crucial role in supporting the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s Rail and Operations Delivery Branch as a partner until May 2029.

Nigel Ash, Chief Executive of Network Rail Consulting Inc and Global Managing Director of Network Rail Consulting, expressed enthusiasm for the project. He noted that the company has been involved in the California High-Speed Rail Program since 2015 and is thrilled to continue its support for the program, which is expected to be a transformative infrastructure initiative in US history.

The services provided by Network Rail Consulting will encompass various aspects of the project, including asset management, rail engineering support, oversight of design and construction operations, network integration and program compliance, start-up and commissioning, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) certification, system safety and security, and commercial support for track, systems, and trainsets contracts.

Network Rail Consulting will collaborate with international consultants Egis and Ricardo, as well as six local California companies: C2PM, D.R. McNatty & Associates, Inc., GCM Consulting, Inc., Intueor Consulting, Inc., LOR Consulting Group LLC, and NSI Engineering, Inc.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority oversees the planning, design, construction, and operation of the high-speed rail network, which is projected to span 800 miles and feature up to 24 stations. Additionally, the Authority is partnering with regional entities to implement a comprehensive rail modernization plan, aiming to invest billions of dollars in local and regional rail lines to meet the state’s evolving transportation needs.
