Dublin Express has introduced a novel bus service, route 783, linking south Dublin directly to the airport, commencing its journey from Terenure and passing through Rathgar and Rathmines en route to the city center and ultimately, Dublin Airport. This service, representing a €5 million investment by the company, is expected to generate 26 new job opportunities, encompassing roles in driving, maintenance, sales, and administration.
Operating over 40 trips daily, with a frequency of every half-hour during peak times, the service aims to enhance connectivity for residents, particularly those in The Liberties and St Stephen’s Green, facilitating easier access for Luas commuters.
Rory Fitzgerald, the General Manager of Dublin Express, highlighted the significant environmental impact of the new service, noting that it could potentially eliminate nearly a million car journeys annually between the city center and Dublin Airport.
The introduction of the 783 service addresses a substantial demand for airport transportation from Dublin’s southside, identified through data indicating that over 520,000 people from the area make approximately 180,000 trips to the airport annually. This route is touted not only as an environmental triumph but also as a cost-effective and convenient alternative for travelers, eliminating the hassles associated with traffic congestion and parking fees.
Ticket pricing for the service has been set, with one-way trips from Dublin Airport to Rathgar and Terenure costing €13 and return tickets priced at €17. Additionally, fares for travel between Ranelagh and Rathmines are €12 for a one-way trip and €16 for a return journey, offering an affordable option for passengers heading to and from the airport.
