Today, YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, witnessed the signing ceremony between Jiangsu TopView Cultural Tourism Industry Development Co. Ltd. and Batik Air, marking a significant stride towards broadening charter flights on routes to China. The agreement encompasses four routes: Nanning to Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai to Tawau, Chengdu to Tawau, and Shenzhen to Tawau.
This expansion builds upon Jiangsu Topview’s existing charters, which commenced on January 23, 2024, and will run until the end of March 2024 to cater to the Chinese New Year and spring festival holiday season. With a positive response to the initial charters, Jiangsu Topview has decided to further expand by adding these additional routes with Batik Air.
Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said: “The strategic collaboration between Jiangsu Topview and Batik Air signifies a strengthening bond between our two nations, paving the way for an influx of Chinese tourists to Malaysia. This partnership also aligns with our efforts to bolster tourism ties and promote Malaysia as a premier destination for Chinese travellers.”
The increase in flights from China to Malaysia is credited to the proactive initiatives of the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture. Leading a sales mission to China, the Minister engaged with key industry stakeholders such as airlines and travel agents. Furthermore, the announcement of visa-free entry for Chinese travelers starting from December 1, 2023, has heightened interest in traveling to Malaysia, emphasizing its appeal as a top tourist destination in the region.
In 2023, Malaysia recorded 1.47 million arrivals from China, marking a remarkable 593.4% surge compared to the 212,603 arrivals during the same period in 2022.
