Norwegian Gem, the first cruise ship of Norwegian Cruise Lines made its first restart on August 15. It is the first cruise ship to sail from Florida with passengers who received their two doses of vaccine.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, the parent company of the cruise line took legal action against the state of Florida. Florida has already banned business from people who need to disclose their COVID 19 vaccination status.

The cruise company is headstrong on their decision of allowing fully vaccinated passengers onboard.

On August 8, a judge with the US District Court for the southern district of Florida ruled in favour of a preliminary ban. It allowed the cruise line to ahead with its course of action.

The line’s first ship was the Norwegian Jade in Greece in July 25 followed by Norwegian Encore on August 7.

NCL’s President and CEO, Harry Sommer said in a press release that it had been an exhilarating experience to start on their fleet, reunite with their shipboard families and welcome guests for their long awaited cruise vacation.

He also asserted that the day of relaunch is special as it is the first time they are commencing from their hometown and from the new NCL Terminal at Port Miami.

After many months they are ready to deliver a safe and memorable experience for the guests at every step of their cruise expedition.

The Norwegian Gem will sail to Costa May and Cozumel in Mexico, Roatan in Honduras and Harvest Caye which is the company’s private island in Belize.

The ship will be sailing on week-long Caribbean cruises and four-day Bahama cruises through October 17, 2021.
