Numerous popular Central Australian tourism experiences and accommodation options will be closed due to restoration work over the summer period leaving tourists wondering what to spend their tourism vouchers on.
A fourth round of tourism vouchers is expected to boost a stressed tourism industry.
Both Kings Canyon and Glen Helen resorts were recently purchased by the Discovery Parks and G’Day Group, and CEO Grant Wilckens said that both properties were aiming significant upgrades that would see Glen Helen closing mid-January until mid-March.
“We’ve tried to stay open for as long as we can to make sure we’re open for Christmas at least,”Wilckenssaid.
“But for Kings Canyon, it’s actually already happened. We closed Kings Canyon on November 22 and we’re not really looking to open up until the beginning of February,” he said.
Mr.Wilckens said that these closures were important to make the properties good enough for the next peak season.
“When we bought them we always knew we had to spend a fair bit of capital to get them up to speed and make sure they were consistent with the customer experience that we were looking for,”Wilckenssaid.
