In a landmark announcement at the 2023 national awards ceremony in Darwin, South Australia was revealed as the host state for the 2024 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, coinciding with the event’s 40th anniversary.

During the ceremony, South Australia’s tourism operators received commendation for their exceptional contributions to the industry. Notably, the Adelaide Fringe clinched Gold in the inaugural Excellence in Accessible Tourism category, while Middleton Beach Huts secured Gold for 4-4.5 Star Deluxe Accommodation.

Adelaide, as the host city for the 2025 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, is set to welcome the crème-de-la-crème of Australia’s tourism sector. This prestigious event will follow Adelaide’s vibrant festival season, providing a fitting backdrop to celebrate tourism’s pinnacle achievements.

Scheduled for March 20-21, 2025, the awards ceremony presents an invaluable opportunity to showcase South Australia’s tourism offerings on a national platform. Since Adelaide last hosted the awards in 2015, the state’s tourism landscape has witnessed significant evolution, with the introduction of luxury accommodations and the development of world-class experiences.

Anticipated to draw up to 800 industry leaders and business owners to South Australia, the event underscores the state’s prowess in hosting major business gatherings, with over 120 such events held annually. Notable past events include the World Routes Aviation Conference, Australasian Hotel Industry Conference and Exhibition, and Tourism Australia Dreamtime.

The Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison, expressed excitement about Adelaide’s hosting of the prestigious awards, emphasizing the opportunity to showcase the state’s tourism potential amidst the backdrop of renowned festivals like the Adelaide Fringe and Adelaide Festival.

Erin McLeod, CEO of the Australian Tourism Industry Council, highlighted Adelaide’s suitability for commemorating the 40th anniversary of the awards, praising the city’s vibrant festival scene and collaborative spirit within the local industry.

From a tourism perspective, hosting the Australian Tourism Awards in South Australia will elevate the state’s profile, attracting attention to its diverse landscapes, acclaimed wine regions, pristine beaches, and vibrant cultural offerings. The event serves as a testament to South Australia’s standing as a premier tourism destination and underscores Adelaide’s role as a dynamic hub for national tourism celebrations.
