Today, OAG, the premier data platform for the global travel industry, unveils the recipients of its Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) Aviation Network Champions awards. This accolade acknowledges the journey toward recovery embarked upon by airlines and airports in the ASPAC region since 2019. Key categories assess frequency and capacity growth for both long and short-haul operators, as well as the most improved networks and recovered routes.
Leveraging the world’s largest flight information and market performance network, OAG identifies the most successful airlines and airports based on connection and capacity growth, as well as recovery. The categories include:
VietJet has positioned itself as a frontrunner in three distinct airline categories: Capacity Growth and Frequency Growth (specifically for short-haul LCC), alongside the prestigious recognition of Most Improved Network. Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta secures its place as the Most Recovered airport, while Hong Kong proudly holds the title of Fastest Growing. Additionally, notable route performance from the past year is acknowledged, with Incheon – Tokyo Narita being distinguished as the Most Competitive International City Pair.
“The global aviation market has fully recovered with ASPAC still lagging behind. Depending on global macroeconomics and the full recovery of the Chinese outbound market, the full recovery should occur end of 2024 or early 2025,” said Mayur Patel, head of the ASPAC Region at OAG. “With rising aircraft orders placed in the region, increasing disposable incomes, and a hunger for travel, ASPAC is poised to lead the industry in the next decade.”
