The Óbidos Chocolate International Festival is set to transform the quaint town into a hub for chocolate aficionados from March 1st to 17th, 2024. This festival, a beacon of culinary excellence since its inception in 2002, aims to elevate the local community and offer unforgettable experiences to its visitors. It acts as a stage for Portugal’s finest chocolatiers and pastry chefs to showcase their talents alongside international peers.

A special highlight of this year’s edition is the dedicated zone for children, offering them a chance to delve into the world of chocolate making. The event’s diverse cultural agenda promises entertainment for all ages, featuring live music, dance acts, and theatrical shows, among other engaging activities.

The festival, celebrated for turning Óbidos into the chocolate capital of the world annually, is renowned for its thematic chocolate sculptures. Attendees have the privilege of sampling chocolates from around the globe, witnessing professional chefs’ prowess with cocoa, and participating in various workshops and contests.

Transportation from Lisbon to Óbidos is convenient, with express buses operating from the Campo Grande terminal, ensuring a smooth one-hour journey. The service, provided by Rodoviária do Oeste, connects travelers directly to the heart of the festival, enhancing access for both local and international visitors.

This year, Francisco Siopa, a revered figure in the culinary world with a rich 25-year career, takes the helm as the festival’s curator. His passion for chocolate and vast experience in prestigious establishments globally underscores the festival’s commitment to culinary excellence. Carlos Afonso, tasked with curating the competition segment, brings his love for Portuguese tradition and cuisine to the forefront, highlighting the festival’s dedication to cultural and culinary heritage.

From its comprehensive cultural program to its focus on culinary arts, the Óbidos Chocolate International Festival not only celebrates the artistry of chocolate making but also significantly contributes to the promotion of global tourism. By providing a platform for cultural exchange and showcasing the best in culinary innovation, the festival attracts visitors from around the world, fostering international tourism and cultural appreciation from start to finish.
