Oakland International Airport (OAK) is preparing to welcome over 140,000 travelers through their doors during passenger demand this September. Traveler numbers will be nearly double that of a typical summer. With this in mind, passengers are encouraged to prepare ahead of time, arrive well before their flight departures and allow ample time for parking, screening and navigating the terminals. All of which will be longer and more congested due to the anticipated traveler demands.

The airport anticipates the biggest crowds on Thursday, September 3, as travellers leave for the holiday weekend, and Monday, September 7, when returning passengers are expected to drive a strong wave of traffic. To ensure smoother journeys, airport authorities are advising passengers to arrive well ahead of departure times, factor in additional time for parking and security screening, and monitor airline updates for any schedule changes or important travel notifications.

Travellers passing through Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK) during the Labor Day weekend will have the chance to participate in a special giveaway in partnership with iHeartRadio. The “OAK Suitcase Party” promotion will offer two lucky winners an unforgettable trip from Oakland to Las Vegas, including an all-expenses-paid weekend experience at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.

The two-week campaign will conclude with a special live event inside OAK Terminal 2 Baggage Claim, where 25 selected radio contest finalists and their guests will arrive with packed suitcases ready for a surprise getaway. During the two-hour celebration, one finalist and a guest will be revealed as the grand prize winners and immediately sent from Oakland to Las Vegas to attend the world-famous music festival.

The festival lineup features major international artists, including BTS, Cardi B, Snoop Dogg, Muse, Ciara, and other leading performers, creating a memorable entertainment experience for the winners.

The airport celebration will also include iHeartRadio personalities, live entertainment, food and beverages, photo opportunities, and aviation-themed activities. The partnership highlights OAK’s role as a major Bay Area travel gateway, connecting passengers with exciting destinations and unique experiences beyond the airport.

Visitors and passengers at OAK can enjoy several recent improvements aimed at enhancing comfort, convenience, and the overall travel experience. The airport has completed the modernization of several public restrooms in Terminal 1, providing passengers with upgraded and more comfortable facilities.

Terminal 2 has also welcomed new dining and retail options. Among the latest additions is Trader Vic’s, bringing the iconic Bay Area restaurant brand to OAK. Passengers can also visit the newly opened Plum Market, which offers fresh and healthy food choices, beverages, locally sourced products, and essential travel items. A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for both Trader Vic’s and Plum Market will be announced in the coming weeks.

OAK continues to invest in facility upgrades, improved concessions, and enhanced passenger amenities as part of its commitment to delivering a world-class travel experience. These ongoing improvements are designed to provide greater comfort and convenience while preserving the accessibility and ease of travel that Bay Area passengers value.
