Nathaniel Pieper named CEO of oneworld alliance, set to enhance global travel. Starts April 1, 2024, to lead 25th-anniversary celebrations.

The oneworld alliance has appointed Nathaniel (Nat) Pieper, an experienced figure in the airline industry, as its next CEO. Currently holding the position of senior vice president of fleet, finance, and alliances at Alaska Airlines, a member of the oneworld alliance, Pieper will step into his new role on April 1, 2024.

In his capacity as CEO, Pieper’s main goals will be to celebrate oneworld’s 25th anniversary and enhance the cooperation among its member airlines to offer global travelers a top-notch and smooth global travel experience. He will be directly reporting to the alliance’s Governing Board, which includes CEOs from all member airlines.

Robert Isom, the CEO of American Airlines and the chairman of the oneworld alliance, expressed enthusiasm about Pieper’s appointment, highlighting his over 25 years of industry experience. Isom believes Pieper is well-suited to lead the alliance towards further innovation and collaboration, thereby improving the travel experience for millions of oneworld customers and frequent flyers.

At Alaska Airlines, Pieper played a pivotal role in integrating the airline into the oneworld alliance, managed aircraft deals worth over $9 billion, and helped the airline secure $5 billion to navigate through the pandemic successfully. Before joining Alaska Airlines, he held key roles at Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines, focusing on international strategies and partnerships.

Nat Pieper said, “In my airline career, I have admired from afar and now experienced first hand the influence and benefits the oneworld alliance brings to an airline and its customers. I am thrilled to join the oneworld family and look forward to working with all of the best-in-class carriers that are part of our alliance. The future of the oneworld alliance is bright and I am ready to continue to develop the alliance into its next 25 years.”

He is a Duke University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in history and has earned an MBA with a focus on finance, strategy, and transportation management from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
