For over a decade, the oneworld® alliance has consistently earned the title of the top Airline Alliance for its onboard wine selection, marking its 13th consecutive victory in a prestigious global wine competition.
This accolade was awarded at the 38th annual Business Traveller’s Cellars in the Sky Awards 2023, which has been honoring outstanding business and first-class onboard wine offerings since its inception in 1985.
The panel of judges for this year’s competition included renowned figures such as winemaker John Worontschak, Masters of Wine Sam Caporn and Peter McCombie, and Charles Metcalfe, the co-founder of the International Wine Challenge, serving as the head judge.
Roger Blackburn, oneworld’s VP for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, accepted the Gold award in London, after the judges conducted a blind test of over 280 wines from 30 different airlines.
Roger Blackburn expressed his enthusiasm, commending all oneworld carriers for their contribution to winning this prestigious award, emphasizing the alliance’s leading position in offering the finest in-flight wines.
In 2024, Qantas set a new record within the alliance by securing thirteen awards across nine different categories, highlighting their excellence in both business and first-class wine selections.
Additionally, several oneworld members were recognized for their superior wine offerings. American Airlines, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, and Qatar Airways all received accolades for their wines, showcasing the alliance’s overall commitment to quality and excellence in their in-flight beverage service.
Airlines participating in the competition are judged on their wine offerings in business or first class on mid- to long-haul flights, including two types of red and white wines, a rosé, a sparkling wine, and a fortified or dessert wine for each cabin.
