The sum of airline passengers who selected Ontario International Airport (ONT) in 2023 increased to over 6.4 million, marking an upsurge of 12% compared to 2022 and approximately 850,000 more compared to the year before the pandemic, as per airport authority representatives.
The Southern California entryway greeted over 6 million local commuters and 417,000 global travelers last year, marking surges of 8.4% and 113.5%, correspondingly. The number of global travelers witnessed an unsurpassed high breaking the earlier highest of 304,000 seen in 2019.
Alan D. Wapner, the President of the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) Board of Commissions and a long-time Member of the City of Ontario Council said that the year-end statistics reveal why ONT is California’s preferred airport among airline commuters.
Ontario representatives said that the airport’s fast pandemic revival emphasizes the robust and stable improvements of 2023, which led airports all through California, together with latest population progression that marks the Inland Empire the 12th largest out of 386 Metropolitan Statistical Areas in the U.S., before San Francisco and only after No. 11 Boston, as stated by current U.S. Census statistics.
