The total number of visitors from abroad to the Asia-Pacific went up by 399% year-on-year during the first eight months of last year. It was just 10.3% compared to the equivalent period in 2019, as per the Asian Development Bank.

According to a latest report, the speed of tourism retrieval has augmented and is expected to touch the levels before the pandemic by 2024.

Last year, Vietnam witnessed 3.66 million visitors, which is 23.3 times higher compared to the year before. However, it is only 20% of the 18 million that it witnessed in 2019, prior to the pandemic.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism stated that the tourism sector is targeting eight million visitors this year.

The Asian Development Bank said that the factors that will contribute toward tourism retrieval in Asia are people’s faith in worldwide travel, reopening of borders by several countries and their public health procedures.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine also poses a threat to the tourism sector in Asia.

Another cause is the increase in the cost of fuel, which indicates greater airfares and travel expenditures, which has reduced retrieval in the Asia-Pacific to some extent.

The report advocated that to hasten retrieval, economies in the Asia-Pacific region need to encourage collaboration, embrace rules to create flexibility and sustainability in tourism and resolve problems prior to the pandemic such as shoddy infrastructure.
