In a pivotal move within the aviation sector, Pacific Airlines, a subsidiary under the Vietnam Airlines Group, has announced a temporary halt in flight operations as part of a comprehensive strategy to overhaul its fleet and flight network. This decision aims to bolster operational efficiency amid the challenging landscape of the aviation industry. During this period, passengers may experience alterations to their flight schedules or temporary discontinuations. Nonetheless, the airline is committed to minimizing disruptions by implementing new flight schedules to maintain stability in its operations.

Understanding the importance of customer satisfaction, Pacific Airlines has proactively developed and executed plans to safeguard passenger rights and interests during this transition. Affected travelers will receive notifications regarding adjusted flight schedules or arrangements for alternative flights through Vietnam Airlines, ensuring seamless travel experiences.

At the heart of this restructuring initiative is a collaborative agreement between Pacific Airlines and Vietnam Airlines. Pacific Airlines will lease aircraft from its parent company to enhance operational effectiveness and leverage resources across the Vietnam Airlines Group. This synergy is expected to expedite the integration of the aircraft into service, further supporting Pacific Airlines’ mission for efficiency and sustainability.

Moreover, Pacific Airlines will benefit from Vietnam Airlines’ extensive infrastructure and customer service facilities, including access to check-in counters and airport shuttle services. This partnership underscores the strategic moves being made within the Vietnam Airlines Group to optimize operational capabilities and resource utilization.

The need for enterprise restructuring is a common theme across the global aviation industry, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic’s profound impacts. This strategic pivot is not only a survival mechanism but also a pathway for Pacific Airlines to rejuvenate its operations, adapt to the evolving market dynamics, and secure a prosperous future.

Đinh Việt Thắng, the director of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration, highlighted the pragmatic approach taken by Pacific Airlines in its restructuring efforts. The airline will lease three aircraft from Vietnam Airlines, excluding crew, maintenance, or insurance services, to maintain operational continuity. This development follows a report submitted by Pacific Airlines to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, detailing its intention to return all aircraft in a bid to alleviate financial pressures. Consequently, Pacific Airlines will cease all aircraft operations starting March 18, marking a significant transition for the airline.

Founded in 1991 as the first low-cost carrier with state-owned enterprise involvement in Vietnam, Pacific Airlines has navigated through various operational challenges over the years. The airline’s struggle was further exacerbated in 2022, recording a loss of nearly VNĐ2.1 trillion (approximately US$84.5 million), largely attributed to the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the travel industry. This restructuring plan represents a critical step for Pacific Airlines as it seeks to recover from past setbacks and chart a course towards long-term growth and stability in the competitive aviation market.
