Drivers are being advised to plan their routes ahead of time as bridge repairs and lane closures lasting for 10 weeks are set to commence at Paisley Gilmour Street station in January.

Network Rail has scheduled essential repairs for the bridge’s girders beneath the station to enhance its structural integrity, extending its lifespan by an additional 25 years. The work is scheduled to commence on Thursday, January 4, 2024, and is expected to conclude on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Engineers will execute the repairs during nightshift hours, from 10 pm to 6 am on Sundays through Thursdays, and from 10 pm to 8 am on Saturdays. A comprehensive traffic management plan, along with associated signage, has been collaboratively established with the local authorities and will be implemented during this period.

During the repairs, pedestrians and cyclists will maintain safe access beneath the bridge via the footpath, and train services will remain unaffected. Jason Haxton, Network Rail’s project manager, expressed appreciation for the understanding and patience of road users and local residents, emphasizing the importance of these improvements for a safe and dependable railway.

Given the bridge’s classification as a B-list structure, utmost care will be taken to restore any brickwork to its original condition. As part of the repair process, the surrounding stonework will be temporarily removed to expose the girders concealed behind the wall. Specialist engineers will then install 25 steel plates to reinforce the beams, with the stone being reinstated upon the completion of the repairs.
