The Palnadu district administration is taking significant steps to position the district as a prime tourism hub in the state by organising the Kondaveedu Fort Fest 2024 on February 10 and 11. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the district’s appeal as a tourist destination, especially in the wake of the recent division of the former Guntur district into three new districts, among which Palnadu boasts a wealth of renowned attractions. These include Amaravathi, Kondaveedu Fort, and a host of other historically and culturally significant sites.

Siva Reddy, the convenor of the Kondaveedu Fort development committee, in an interaction with TNIE, highlighted the substantial improvements made to the fort, including the construction of a ghat road and enhancements to the basic infrastructure, which have contributed to a notable increase in visitors to the site.

Kondaveedu Fort now offers a wide array of activities such as trekking, rock climbing, and various adventure sports, along with a museum equipped with modern facilities. The development is part of a concerted effort to revive the fort from its previous state of neglect and transform it into a key attraction.

Furthermore, the district has focused on promoting Buddhist tourism through the establishment of Buddhavanam at Amaravati, a project funded under the Union Government’s Swadesh Darshan scheme, aimed at drawing Buddhists from across the globe.

Significant archaeological sites like Nagarjunakonda, which is a treasure trove of Buddhist artifacts, including stupas and scriptures, play a vital role in attracting international visitors from countries such as Japan, Nepal, and China, underscoring the global appeal of Palnadu’s cultural heritage.

In addition to these cultural and historical attractions, the district is also embarking on a mega tourism project around Nagarjuna Sagar, involving luxury resorts and agribusiness ventures, aimed at enhancing the tourist experience.

To commemorate World Tourism Day, the district’s tourism department has introduced boating, fun parks, and food courts under the Jal Vihar and Anand Vihar initiatives at Kotappakonda, anticipating a surge in visitors during the Shivaratri festival.

Collector Siva Sankar Lotheti has expressed the district’s commitment to promoting tourism through the Kondaveedu Fort Fest, with plans to host various cultural events and competitions, further enriching the tourism offerings of Palnadu district.
