Parking charges civic or private organizations charging more in Goa

The Goa tourism department has established parking areas at chosen beaches. However, local civic
organizations or people offering such facilities at most expanses and tourist spots not only charge more but do not issue receipts as well. In fact, parking charges specified by civic or private organizations are higher compared to those at airports or towns where pay- parking are a custom.

Rohan Khaunte, Goa tourism minister said that the state government has reflected on creating parking
spaces in areas where it has land, but cannot say anything when it comes to the amenity being presented
by panchayats, even though the users are charged too much. The minister said that they are in the procedure of listing beaches without parking facilities and are finding possibilities to decide the state of affairs.

The issue lately ignited a struggle between the panchayat of Candolim village and the tourism division
after the first started gathering Rs. 100 as parking charges from every motorist looking to visit the Aguada jail museum and not giving receipts either. The museum is administered by the Goa tourism division.

Khaunte said that his unit is conscious of this incongruity and will take action. Candolim Sarpanch Blaize Fernandes has defended the execution of parking charges, and said that vehicles are parked within the panchayat’s dominion.
