Exciting Updates and Innovations

LEGOLAND California is preparing to mark its 25th anniversary, also known as its “brickday,” with grand celebrations. This spring, visitors can look forward to the unveiling of Dino Valley, a newly introduced themed area featuring three new attractions, a revamped dinosaur excavation site, and opportunities for character interactions. The attractions set to debut include the DUPLO Little Dino Trail, Explorer River Quest, and Coastersaurus.

SeaWorld San Diego is set to captivate visitors with the launch of Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience, an immersive exhibit dedicated to the fascinating world of jellyfish. This spring, guests will have the opportunity to explore unique jellyfish habitats, including one of the nation’s largest jelly cylinders, an immersive walk-through arch, and a vast viewing wall.

San Diego and Tijuana have earned the prestigious title of the 2024 World Design Capital, a recognition that highlights their significant contributions to the fields of art and design. The World Design Festival, scheduled from May 1-5 in Tijuana, aims to foster engagement with the design community through a variety of activities such as lectures, exhibitions, workshops, and open studio visits, both for locals and international guests.

Hotel and Resort Enhancements

The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina is set to reveal its comprehensive multimillion-dollar renovation of the Marina Tower in early 2024. The makeover emphasizes the transformation of public areas, guest accommodations, and suites. Additionally, the property will introduce four novel dining and entertainment concepts: Rumorosa, Brewery X’s first San Diego outpost, the Sunglow harborside bar and cabana club, and Strada, a convenient on-the-go dining option.

Cultural Celebrations and Exhibitions

The Japanese Friendship Garden will host the 2024 Cherry Blossom Festival from March 7-10, celebrating the traditional Japanese Hanami. The event will feature daily cultural performances, family-friendly activities, taiko drumming, and a cosplay contest. Guests are invited to wander through the garden’s serene landscapes to admire the cherry blossoms in full bloom.

In honor of its 150th anniversary in 2024, the San Diego Natural History Museum is offering a special gift of free admission during visitors’ birthday months. The museum will also debut a new outdoor Nature Trail in spring 2024, which will display a variety of plant species native to the San Diego and Baja California regions.

The NTC and Cygnet Theatre have initiated construction on The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center within the Liberty Station Arts District. Slated to open in spring 2025, this facility will feature a 289-seat proscenium theatre, a versatile 150-seat studio space, and modern support amenities including dressing rooms, rehearsal areas, and a costume shop.

Dining and Nightlife Ventures

Celebrated chef Phillip Esteban is set to open Wildflour in Liberty Station this spring, expanding his portfolio of fast-casual dining establishments. Inspired by global deli and bakery concepts, Wildflour will blend Southern California flair with a focus on locally sourced ingredients, offering a diverse menu suitable for dine-in or takeaway.

After a decade-long hiatus, the Whaling Bar will re-open its doors in early 2024. This iconic venue, a historical favorite among celebrities and locals since the 1940s, will feature a refreshed design while preserving some of its classic nautical artwork and signature cocktails, under the management of the SDCM Restaurant Group.

The Lafayette Hotel unveils Lou Lou’s Jungle Bar, infusing a touch of New York jazz club ambiance into its historic setting. The bar features live performances on the iconic clam shell stage, alongside prix fixe dining and premium cocktails. Additionally, the hotel is gearing up to introduce Le Horse, a luxurious dining venue inspired by European elegance and early 20th-century fine dining, set to open later this spring.

Recognition and Transportation News

The San Diego International Airport has been recognized for its punctuality, ranking among the top worldwide by Cirium, while Upgraded Points named it the best U.S. airport for layovers due to its ample amenities.

San Diego International Airport is excited to welcome Breeze Airways this spring, introducing five new nonstop flight destinations including Raleigh-Durham, Jacksonville, Norfolk, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh starting late April. Furthermore, international carriers such as British Airways, Lufthansa, JapanAir, Air Canada, and EasyJet have updated their spring schedules, enhancing connectivity and service frequency to and from San Diego.
