Frontier, a commercial airline, has revealed plans to inaugurate six direct routes to Puerto Rico starting on June 1. These routes will connect the island with Charlotte, N.C., Boston, Mass., Norfolk, Va., and Florida cities Palm Beach, Fort Myers, and Fort Lauderdale. This announcement is particularly exciting for golf enthusiasts, as Puerto Rico is renowned for being an excellent and easily accessible destination with 18 diverse yet complementary golf courses, including two currently under construction.

Puerto Rico offers additional advantages for travelers, such as a bilingual culture, the use of U.S. currency, and the convenience of not requiring a passport for American citizens. The island has become a favored location for golf events organized by prestigious entities like the PGA Tour, United States Golf Association, Augusta National, college golf programs, and the American Junior Golf Tour. The appeal lies not only in the quality of the golf facilities but also in the overall experience, enhanced by award-winning resorts, over 4,000 restaurants, picturesque beaches, lively nightlife, delectable cuisine, rare biodiversity, and a warm and inclusive bilingual culture.

Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico, emphasized the global growth of the golf niche and expressed gratitude for the new flight routes. According to Dean, these routes are welcomed as they cater to the increasing demand for the destination and allow more individuals to explore Puerto Rico’s diverse tourism offerings.

Sixteen of Puerto Rico’s 18 golf courses are open to the public, while the remaining two are exclusive to guests staying at affiliated resorts. Golfweek has recognized several courses on the island as among the finest in the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Atlantic Islands.

Puerto Rico’s golf courses vary from luxurious resort amenities to standalone daily fee facilities, spread across the island in distinct regions, with many located near the historic San Juan. The settings boast oceanside views, coconut trees, and mountain-rainforest vistas. With a range of price points, terrains, design styles, and amenities, Puerto Rico’s golf offerings cater to a wide array of preferences.
