In a bid to promote rural tourism across the district, the Pune Zilla Parishad (ZP) has decided to conserve and maintain temples, wadas, and structures with historical significance.
As reported by Times News Network, Ayush Prasad, the chief executive officer of ZP, said, “Rajasthan has achieved tremendous success in rural tourism. On the same lines, we could also create opportunities for the rural population in the district. This move is the first step towards a bigger plan.”
The Holkar wada at Wafgaon, the Chandrachud wada at Kanhersar, the Bhuleshwar temple in Daund, and several small temples of the Maratha empire era in Junnar are among a few of the places to be covered under the project.
The ZP has sought the co-operation of the gram sevaks to make this project a success. The role of the gram sevaks is to survey the significant places and report their present condition.
Sachin Ghadge, the head of ZP’s gram panchayat section, said, “We will get to know the prevailing condition of these places after a survey. Accordingly, we will carry out the conservation work, with a focus on rural tourism.”
“The Sahyadri Giribramhan Sanstha submitted a memorandum in this regard a few days ago. Following this, we have taken a step towards conservation,” Ghadge added.
Various organizations have been demanding conservation at several places of importance, however, it is difficult to manage and maintain at the village level owing to a fund crunch, the official said.
“If we could develop more places, we could attract tourists to newer places in other areas of the district. It would benefit the locals,” a senior official from the ZP said.
