Qantas & Jetstar Airways adopt S.PM+ for better maintenance, aiming to reduce delays & AOG incidents, enhancing efficiency & sustainability in operations.

Qantas and Jetstar Airways have embraced the Skywise Predictive Maintenance (S.PM+) technology, marking a significant stride towards enhancing their operational efficiency. This move underscores their dedication to preemptive maintenance strategies, aiming to foresee potential issues, diminish the occurrence of delays, and cut down on Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situations.

The partnership was formalized at the Singapore Airshow, targeting the integration of the S.PM+ system across Qantas’ A330 fleet and Jetstar Airways’ A320 fleet. The implementation process of S.PM+ kicked off in 2023, indicating a proactive approach by Qantas and Jetstar Airways to integrate this advanced solution.

This collaboration builds upon a prior arrangement made with Airbus in 2019, where Qantas and Jetstar Airways began utilizing the Skywise platform for their aircraft. This initiative marked a pivotal move towards digitizing their operational processes.

The S.PM+ system leverages comprehensive aircraft data to predict and alert about potential component failures by analyzing unusual patterns. This enables Qantas and Jetstar Airways to shift from reactive to proactive maintenance schedules, enhancing fleet management, minimizing downtime, and achieving fuel efficiencies.

Skywise by Airbus stands as a premier digital aviation ecosystem, encompassing various functionalities such as reliability, predictive maintenance, and health monitoring. Utilizing extensive data analytics, it provides airlines with bespoke solutions to tackle operational hurdles, paving the way for a more efficient and sustainable approach to managing and maintaining Airbus fleets.

“Our experience with Skywise digital solutions has proven invaluable, having significantly enhanced our reliability and operational efficiency,” stated Scott McConnell, Qantas Group Executive General Manager, Engineering. “With the Skywise Predictive Maintenance digital solution, we will be able to further minimise operational disruptions and optimise fleet performance. The capability of S.PM Skywise digital solution perfectly aligns with our commitment to maintaining a high standard of maintenance excellence.”

“Airbus is deepening our relationship with Qantas and Jetstar Airways through their adoption of Skywise Predictive Maintenance. We are confident in our airline customers experiencing streamlined operations, reduced costs, and making significant strides towards mitigating the aviation industry’s carbon footprint. This collaborative endeavour underscores Airbus’ commitment to pioneering innovative solutions that drive operational excellence while advancing global sustainability goals,” said Raymond Lim, Head of Airbus Services Asia-Pacific.
