In Qatar, experts and officials anticipate a notable surge in Umrah pilgrimages during Ramadan, projecting a potential increase of up to 20 percent in the number of pilgrims departing from Qatar to the holy land. This surge follows last year’s tangible rise and is bolstered by Qatari facilitations, including streamlined family visa procedures, enhancing the likelihood of obtaining Saudi tourist visas for a full year.

Preparations among Hajj and Umrah companies, travel agencies, and tourism agencies are underway for the holy month, characterized by intensified travel activities to the Two Holy Mosques. Bookings for Umrah trips typically surge well in advance of Ramadan, reflecting the high demand anticipated during this spiritually significant period.

Daily inquiries about Umrah are on the rise, with expectations of heightened interest during the last ten days of Ramadan. Airline seat demand is forecasted to increase by 60 percent, complemented by a 40 percent rise in land travel bookings, indicative of the growing interest in performing Umrah rituals.

Writer and economic expert Ahmed Aql underscores the pivotal role of the Umrah season in stimulating Qatar’s national economy, positioning it as a key driver of tourism sector growth. He attributes this growth to recent visa facilitations by Saudi Arabia and Qatar’s hosting of major events like the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the Doha Expo, which have led to increased tourist visa issuance.

Aql predicts a significant market growth ranging between 15-20 percent, buoyed by Qatar’s diverse tourism offerings and visa incentives. The surge in demand for Hajj and Umrah services has catalyzed local market activity, particularly in the sale of Ihram garments and other necessities, boosting the national economy.

Umrah’s benefits extend beyond Qatar, impacting the holy lands as well. Demand peaks during the last ten days of Ramadan, driving price increases for flights and accommodation. Flight seat prices from Doha to Jeddah may soar from QR 2300-2600 to QR 4000, while room rates escalate, reaching QR 4200 for a shared room and QR 6000 for a single room, reflecting the fervor surrounding Umrah pilgrimages during this sacred period.
