Thailand Unveils Suan Dusit Arun Success as Bangkok’s Largest Rooftop Park Welcomes Thousands of Visitors

Following its first year of operations, marked on 3 September 2026, Suan Dusit Arun has unveiled its initial performance report highlighting visitor engagement, community use, and environmental contributions. The 11,200-square-metre public rooftop park, located within Dusit Central Park in central Bangkok, recorded significant public interest, welcoming an average of 2,621 unique visitors each day throughout its first 12 months. The results underline the rising demand for accessible urban green spaces in Thailand’s capital.

Located at the heart of Bangkok’s central business district, Suan Dusit Arun has emerged as the city’s largest public rooftop park and a landmark feature of Dusit Central Park. The elevated green space offers panoramic views over Lumpini Park, one of Bangkok’s most valued urban landscapes, while addressing major challenges faced by the capital, including increasing urban heat, limited greenery, and the need to protect biodiversity within a rapidly developing city.

Designed as an open public space, Suan Dusit Arun provides visitors with an opportunity to experience nature, relaxation, and spacious surroundings above one of Bangkok’s busiest areas. The park’s activities and visitor management systems have been carefully planned to maintain the health of its landscape, protect the natural environment, and create a peaceful setting where people can enjoy the space sustainably.

The rooftop park acts as the central green connection linking the key components of Dusit Central Park. These include the renowned Dusit Thani Bangkok hotel, Central Park Offices, the Central Park retail destination, and the 69-storey residential development featuring the luxury Dusit Residences and modern Dusit Parkside residences.

The landscape design follows the broader vision of Dusit Central Park by combining environmental considerations with cultural influences. The layout has been developed to optimise natural airflow, respond to sunlight patterns, and incorporate Feng Shui concepts that promote balance, harmony, and a stronger relationship between people and their surroundings.

Around 98% of Suan Dusit Arun’s total landscape area is dedicated to greenery. The park features 184 plant varieties, including 48 native Thai species, creating a diverse environment designed for recreation, education, community activities, and peaceful moments. The planting strategy includes local shade trees, flowering plants, and species selected for their ability to adapt to Bangkok’s climate conditions.

The park also highlights Thailand’s natural and cultural heritage through its carefully selected vegetation. Nine tree species planted within the landscape are listed under threatened categories of the IUCN Red List, including two critically endangered species, two endangered species, and five vulnerable species. The collection also includes culturally significant plants such as sacred spirit trees, varieties mentioned in traditional Thai literature, and jasmine, which holds special importance as a symbol of Mother’s Day in Thailand. Pollinator-supporting plants, including mangrove apple and queen’s crape myrtle, further strengthen the park’s ecological value.

Sustainability is also reflected in Suan Dusit Arun’s water management approach. The park uses harvested and recycled water to meet around 25% of its irrigation requirements. An automated irrigation system with timer controls helps manage water usage efficiently while supporting the long-term health of the landscape.

The rooftop park also contributes to Bangkok’s urban resilience by reducing pressure on the city’s drainage infrastructure. Its planted areas are estimated to lower stormwater runoff by between 30% and 50% compared with a traditional rooftop surface dominated by hard materials.

Although environmental monitoring of Suan Dusit Arun is still continuing, early assessments have shown positive results. Measurements conducted inside and outside the project area on 13 and 14 March 2026 indicated cooler conditions within the rooftop park. Temperatures inside Suan Dusit Arun reached 31°C, compared with 33°C in surrounding areas. During the same monitoring period, suspended particulate matter levels inside the park were approximately 35% lower than outside the development.

Through its combination of urban greenery, environmental innovation, cultural planting, and public accessibility, Suan Dusit Arun represents a new approach to city living in Bangkok. The rooftop park demonstrates how carefully designed green infrastructure can create healthier urban spaces while supporting biodiversity and improving the everyday experience for residents and visitors.

Beyond serving as a vibrant public space for everyday visitors, Suan Dusit Arun completed its first year with a diverse calendar of 43 carefully designed recreational, wellness, and learning-focused programmes. These activities attracted more than 9,500 participants and included fitness sessions such as aerobics and Pilates, community runs, Children’s Day activities, live performances, creative discussions, design-focused sessions, and educational visits from schools and universities.

The venue strengthened its community connections through partnerships with organisations including Silpakorn University, SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP), the Thai Red Cross, educational institutions, local communities, and private-sector partners.

Sustainability has also remained a key focus of Suan Dusit Arun’s operations. Through its collaboration with SCGP, the venue supports the “Old for New” recycling programme by separating approximately 100 kilograms of cardboard waste every month for recycling. Event organisers are encouraged to minimise single-use plastics and adopt reusable or recyclable materials whenever possible, helping reduce environmental impact while promoting responsible event practices.

Tree Walk Highlights Urban Sustainability During Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026

As part of Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026, Suan Dusit Arun and Dusit International will join forces with Big Trees Foundation to organise Tree Walk: Discovering the Value of Urban Trees at Suan Dusit Arun on 9 October 2026.

The half-day experience will be guided by landscape architect Touchapon Soontrajarn and professional arborists, offering participants insights into the importance of urban trees and sustainable landscape management. The programme will highlight how effective tree care and thoughtful green-space planning can contribute to cooler cities, improved air quality, stronger biodiversity, and enhanced public well-being.

The event will take place from 9:00 to 11:30 hrs and will welcome a maximum of 30 participants. The participation fee is THB 250 per person, with all proceeds supporting Big Trees Foundation’s urban tree conservation efforts. Visitors can register through the official Bangkok Climate Action Week platform.
