Radisson Hotel Group aims to achieve Net Zero for every guest night at its 16 UAE hotels during the COP28 climate conference (30 November to 12 December 2023). This is accomplished through Renewable Energy certificates and Certified Carbon Credits, ensuring a sustainable and eco-friendly stay for guests.

As part of its commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2050, Radisson Hotel Group is launching an innovative initiative called “Net Zero Nights.” During the critical 13 days of the UNFCCC COP28 conference, the Group is making sustainability the default option for all guests staying in one of its 16 UAE hotels by ensuring their hotel nights are Net Zero with regards to scope 1 & 2 emissions. Guided by the principle of ‘Think People, Planet, and Community,’ Radisson Hotel Group continues to lead the way in driving positive changes within the industry. During the COP28 conference, the group will purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (iRECs) to neutralize the electric emissions associated with its hotels in the UAE.

Radisson Hotel Group’s “Net Zero Nights” initiative during COP28 ensures that every guest night in its 16 UAE hotels becomes Net Zero in terms of scope 1 & 2 emissions. Utilizing Renewable Energy Certificates (iRECs) and Certified Carbon Credits, the Group supports a REDD+ project in Borneo, dedicated to preserving endangered species and earning Triple Gold Validation for sustainable forest management under the CCB standard. This aligns with environmental objectives and advances selected UN Sustainable Development goals.

Journey to Net Zero by 2050
Radisson Hotel Group is committed to responsible tourism and standardized responsible hospitality. With a pledge to achieve Net Zero by 2050, following science-based targets aligned with the Paris Agreement, the group implements measures like greening hotel buildings, transitioning to renewable energy, and hosting carbon-neutral meetings to reduce its environmental impact. Focused on three levers—green hotel buildings, green energy transition, and green operations—the Group aims to halve its footprint by 2030 as an intermediate target.

In the UAE, Radisson Hotels showcases green buildings, like Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek, leading in innovation with a thermodynamic solar system for hot water. Radisson RED Dubai Silicon Oasis achieved LEED Platinum in April 2021, resulting in a 22% energy cost reduction and 50% water use reduction. Radisson Blu Resort, Fujairah, focuses on water and energy savings with aerators, a thermodynamic solar system, and a greywater treatment plant for irrigation.

Further Sustainability Initiatives by Radisson Hotel Group
Radisson Hotel Group, rooted in responsible business practices since 1989, ensures every meeting and event at its hotels worldwide is 100% carbon neutral, offsetting over 61,000 tons of CO2 since May 2019.

The offsets support Gold Standard or VCS projects, equivalent to removing about 13,300 petrol-driven cars. The group’s sustainable initiatives extend to daily operations, including towel reuse and green housekeeping programs with community impact. Savings from these efforts contribute to Just a Drop, providing clean drinking water access to over 29,500 children.

Radisson Hotel Group collaborates with industry partners on initiatives like Hotel Sustainability Basics and the Pathway to Net Positive Hospitality, with the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (SHA). These efforts showcase the group’s commitment to sustainability, making eco-friendly travel accessible and enjoyable, while positively impacting the environment and communities.
