The 46th edition of the PATA Travel Mart was being hosted from October 4-6.

Due to the pandemic, the PATA Travel Mart is being hosted in person for the first time in three years.

According to the chief of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), Peter Semone, the recovery in tourism in the Asia-Pacific region following the COVID-19 epidemic has been “strong and robust” and the numbers have reached nearly 80% of 2019’s statistics.

When asked about the recovery made in tourism sector in Asia-Pacific region He claimed the recovery is solid and that since 2019, the region has been operating at 80%.

He added, “The quality of tourism, in terms of lengths of stays, is better. It seems, when people are travelling, they are travelling a little bit more seriously and in a bit more committed way”.

The event also has exhibitors from South Korea, Nepal, Malaysia, Taiwan, and a few Indian states.

As soon as borders were reopened, travel businesses started to offer a lot of incentive deals since people wanted to see their relatives abroad.

Another senior PATA official told PTI that these elements also played a role in the region’s tourism industry’s resurgence.

In response to a question on India’s tourism recovery following the pandemic, Rakesh Kumar Verma, additional secretary in the Union Ministry of Tourism, stated, “The performance this year is around 80% of our pre-pandemic level.” He also reaffirmed India’s long-term goal for the tourist industry during the news conference.

According to Verma, by 2047, there will be 20 billion domestic visits and 100 million foreign visitors. Also a $1 trillion tourism industry. However, that is a cautious estimate, as our sector aims for USD 3 trillion.

V Vidyavathi, the Union’s Secretary for Tourism, who was also present. Stated that in addition to promoting the “Travel for LIFE” project, the ministry is putting more of an emphasis on highlighting lesser-known tourist attractions, or the “hidden gems” of India, to entice travelers to try out new places while easing the pressure on popular ones. The PATA Travel Mart – 2023 is being held at the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan. The complex was also the venue for the G20 Summit held from September 9-10.

“We have the variety and diversity of Indian (tourism) products”, said Verma. According to him, there has been a “transformation in supply side” that will aid in drawing tourists.

According to organizers, the event in Delhi brings together industry experts and business stakeholders from all over the world and provides a singular platform for networking, education, and collaboration.

According to the PATA website, this year’s awards, which have been supported and sponsored by the Macao Government Tourism Office since 1995, honoured 23 different companies and individuals in a variety of categories, including Kerala Tourism, the Korea Tourism Organization, MGM China, Tourism Fiji, and Sri Lankan Airlines.
