Perth, Australia, is set to become the aviation hub of the Asia Pacific region as it hosts Routes Asia 2025 from March 25th to 27th, 2025. The announcement, made at the CAPA World Aviation Summit, marks a significant milestone for Perth Airport and Tourism Western Australia, with backing from Business Events Perth and Business Events Australia.

Routes Asia serves as a crucial platform, bringing together decision-makers from airlines, airports, and destinations across the Asia Pacific. The event’s negotiations shape the future of air connectivity for the region, with the participation of VPs and heads of network planning from over 80 leading airlines.

Western Australia’s tourism sector, a key player in the state’s economy, is set to benefit from increased air connectivity. With nearly 30,000 tourism businesses and 89,100 jobs supported in 2021-21, the sector contributed $16.8 billion in visitor spending in 2022-23. Routes Asia in Perth aims to demonstrate the viability and profitability of routes to priority markets such as China, India, South Korea, Taiwan, and other untapped markets.

Perth, having recovered international traffic to 90% of pre-pandemic levels, is strategically focused on developing direct aviation access. Recent successes include Qantas’ announcement of a non-stop service to Paris in July 2024 and new non-stop services to Ho Chi Minh City by VietJet Air and Vietnam Airlines.

Steven Small, Director of Routes, highlighted the economic benefits of increased air connectivity, stating that hosting Routes Asia positions Perth at the forefront of discussions driving growth for the region’s air route networks. The Western Australian Government sees hosting major events as a key priority, anticipating that Routes Asia 2025 will be a catalyst for growth.

Carolyn Turnbull, Managing Director of Tourism WA, expressed enthusiasm about expanding WA’s aviation connections, leveraging Routes Asia 2025 to secure more direct flight connections between Perth and Asia. She thanked key supporters—Perth Airport, Business Events Perth, and Business Events Australia—for securing this premier event, anticipating the arrival of aviation and trade leaders to the vibrant capital city in 18 months’ time.

This event reinforces Perth’s commitment to becoming the Western Gateway to Australia, showcasing its potential for economic growth and prosperity through enhanced air connectivity.
