The 19th edition of the Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon this year brings an enticing and revitalized route that starts and ends at the heart of Europe’s capital. This course beautifully showcases the essence of Brussels.
Similar to last year, both the marathon and half marathon will kick off at De Brouckèreplein, leading participants through a picturesque loop in the city center initially.
Following their passage through the city center, half marathoners will continue their journey through Brussels, while marathon runners will dive into the Annie Cordy Tunnel, embarking on a route that explores the green expanses around Brussels, including the monumental Basilica of Koekelberg, Ganshoren marsh, and various parks in Jette.
Both courses converge on the Heysel plateau, offering breathtaking views of the Atomium and Palace of Laeken.
The latter part of the route introduces new highlights alongside familiar stretches, such as the scenic Boulevard Lambermont with its grand mansions, leading runners to Cinquantenaire Park.
The climax of the race awaits in the city center, a rare treat after a long time. The exact route and finish line details will be disclosed on 3 June.
The Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon caters to the entire family with not just the traditional marathon and half marathon distances but also a speedy 7 km race in the city center and a Persil 1K Kids Run.
“We are extremely happy and proud to once again be able to bring the Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon to the historic heart of the city,” says Thomas Huyberechts of organiser Golazo. “This course breathes Brussels and shows our capital city at its best. We are hugely looking forward to welcoming thousands of runners from all over the world to Brussels.”
Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport: “Once again this year, the Brussels Airport Marathon offers a unique course, allowing runners to take over the centre of Brussels for a while! Every year, I look forward to seeing live how this event brings together athletes of all levels and backgrounds. Thanks to the different distances, this is an event that everyone can participate in, or is welcome to support and get a taste of the action that way. Bringing people together for a fun sporting experience while letting them enjoy our beautiful capital, is a mission we at Brussels Airport fully support!”
This year, the Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon has been rescheduled on the calendar. Due to several events taking place this autumn, including the Pope’s visit, the date of November 3rd was selected after discussions with the security forces.
