This new 8,500 m² building, situated in the North Zone of the airport, serves as a dedicated maintenance shop for the latest generation LEAP-1 engines, which power modern aircraft like the A320neo and B737 MAX.

Designed and constructed by the Brussels Airport Company, the facility aligns with the airport’s strategic commitment to sustainability.

It meets the highest environmental standards by being Net Zero Carbon and energy positive.

This achievement is made possible through the use of 100% renewable energy sources, including extensive solar panels and innovative circular heating systems.

Remarkably, the building generates more energy than it consumes.

The new workshop is a significant addition to Safran Aircraft Engines’ global maintenance network and will support the growing demand for LEAP engine maintenance.

Safran Aircraft Engine Services Brussels, with a rich history spanning 75 years in aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul, continues to play a crucial role in the Brussels Airport ecosystem.

Jean-Paul Alary, President of Safran Aircraft Engines, highlighted the importance of this new facility: “We are excited to enhance our presence within the Brussels Airport community, known for its high standards in low-carbon infrastructure.

This facility is vital for our global MRO network, supporting the expanding fleet of LEAP engines while minimizing our environmental impact.”

Safran’s new site at Brussels Airport began operations this year and plans to ramp up to approximately 120 workshop visits annually.

Future expansion is already in the pipeline to accommodate additional LEAP module maintenance activities, currently handled at their historic site.

This growth will be supported by an ambitious recruitment drive, aiming to add over 220 new employees by 2027, complementing the existing 250-strong workforce.
