Saint Lucia partners with SUNx Institute on Earth Day 2025 to lead the charge in transforming tourism into a climate-resilient, low-carbon industry for a sustainable future.

In a bold move to lead by example in sustainable tourism, the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) has joined forces with the SUNx Institute to mark Earth Day 2025 with the signing of a visionary Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This strategic alliance sets the stage for a transformative shift towards a climate-resilient, low-carbon tourism future for Saint Lucia.

The agreement cements both organizations’ commitment to advancing Climate Friendly Travel (CFT) — a model that emphasizes measurable, environmentally responsible, and future-ready practices. Under this initiative, SLHTA member businesses will be supported in adopting greener operations that align with the SUNx Institute’s guiding principles, including the goals outlined in the UN 2030/2050 sustainability roadmap.

As a recognized global champion of sustainable travel, SUNx will equip Saint Lucia’s tourism sector with tools, training, and access to the Climate Friendly Travel Registry. This registry connects Saint Lucia to a global network of eco-conscious travel businesses and ethically minded consumers committed to environmental stewardship.

Coinciding with the global Earth Day 2025 theme, “Planet vs. Plastics,” the partnership also elevates the fight against plastic pollution, promotes waste reduction, and encourages the adoption of sustainable sourcing practices across the island’s hospitality landscape.

This MOU is more than a document—it’s a call to action. SLHTA and SUNx are inviting travelers, industry players, and governments to champion the shift toward a travel model that safeguards the planet while fostering resilient communities and a brighter future.
