Sarawak, a gem in Malaysia’s tourism landscape, is making waves as it celebrates a remarkable surge in visitor arrivals from the United Kingdom in the first nine months of 2023.

During this period, an impressive 18,833 UK visitors flocked to Sarawak to experience its captivating charm and authentic eco-tourism offerings. This surge represents a staggering 216.74% increase in UK visitor arrivals compared to the same period in 2022 when 5,944 visitors were recorded.

YB Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, expressed his excitement about this significant increase and the growing popularity of Sarawak as a top-tier travel destination. He eagerly anticipates engaging with the United Kingdom’s travel trade and media at this year’s World Travel Market (WTM) 2023 to discuss Sarawak’s exciting developments and future plans.

One of the most exciting developments is Sarawak’s new campaign with National Geographic Traveller (UK). This collaborative effort includes a series of eight articles and six one-minute videos featured on National Geographic Traveller (United Kingdom)’s website.

To simplify the booking process for travellers, Sarawak’s website offers a dedicated landing page on TripAdvisor’s platform, allowing visitors to book their preferred tourism experiences seamlessly. This compelling campaign is set to run until April 2024.

Minister Abdul Karim emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to be working with National Geographic Traveller (UK) on these articles and are pleased to separately be partnering with TripAdvisor to deliver the fulfillment on tourism arrivals from the UK market. This collaboration perfectly aligns with Sarawak’s unique culture and natural beauty, highlighting our compelling tourism offerings, including orangutan conservation efforts, Niah National Park, gastronomic heritage, rich handicrafts, and responsible tourism. We eagerly anticipate sharing the wonders of Sarawak with our worldwide audience, enabling travelers to discover and experience the magic of this incredible place.”

Sarawak’s extraordinary growth in tourism and its strategic global marketing campaigns are putting this Malaysian state on the map as a must-visit destination for travelers worldwide.
