Sarawak Unveils LEGACY360: Pioneering Sustainable Futures in Business Events

Sarawak hosted an exclusive preview of LEGACY360 – Business Events for a Sustainable Future, Southeast Asia’s first locally developed forum dedicated to advancing education, advocacy, and innovation in business event legacies. This groundbreaking initiative highlights Sarawak’s commitment to positioning business events as catalysts for economic, social, and environmental transformation, aligning seamlessly with BESarawak’s mission to embed meaningful legacies into Malaysia’s business events industry.

As Sarawak aims to solidify its role as the legacy capital of business events in Malaysia and Borneo by 2030, LEGACY360 serves as a strategic platform to propel this vision forward. The preview event provided a snapshot of the larger forum scheduled for September 2025, offering attendees an engaging panel discussion and insights into the transformative power of legacies in business events.

Panel Spotlight: Business Events for a Sustainable Future

A dynamic panel discussion, Business Events for a Sustainable Future, set the tone for the preview. The panel featured prominent voices, each bringing unique insights:

• Datu Hii Chang Kee, Deputy State Secretary (Operations) and Deputy Chairman of BESarawak, outlined Sarawak’s government strategies for integrating legacy practices into its business events framework, emphasizing their alignment with state goals.
• Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, shared updates on the Legacy Impact Master Action Plan 2023-2025, highlighting its final-year milestones and future aspirations.
• Datuk Dr. M Gandhi, President of MACEOS and Chairman of Bumiati Holdings Sdn Bhd, offered valuable perspectives on balancing economic growth with social impact, while underscoring the role of entrepreneurs in driving sustainable change.
• Jane Vong-Holmes, Senior Manager – Asia at GainingEdge, delivered a global perspective on legacy building, focusing on talent recruitment and retention as critical components of sustainability.

The preview also introduced cutting-edge initiatives designed to transform the business events landscape:

  Heralded as the world’s first AI-driven system for monitoring, measuring, and reporting business event legacies, AI.LEGACY represents a game-changing tool for event planners. Developed in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), it offers actionable insights to drive measurable outcomes.
• Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards (BILA)
  Evolving from the beloved Anak Sarawak Awards, BILA is Malaysia’s first business events awards program to spotlight global contributions to legacy building. This refreshed platform aims to inspire resilience and impactful contributions across the industry.
• Tribe Legacy Sarawak Campaign 2025
  With the tagline Driving Impact Together, this campaign reinforces BESarawak’s dedication to creating meaningful legacies. The preview also unveiled the I AM LEGACY movement, celebrating individual actions that inspire significant change.

Honoring Long-Serving Members

The event also recognized nine long-serving BESarawak team members who have contributed between five and fifteen years of service, celebrating their dedication and impact within the organization.

The Right Honourable Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Dr Haji Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Haji Abang Openg, Premier of Sarawak, represented by The Hon. Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak said, “As we move towards becoming the legacy capital of business events in Malaysia and Borneo, LEGACY360 is a vital platform. Our vision is to position LEGACY360 as a globally recognised event.”

“The main forum, scheduled for September 2025, will feature an engaging two-day programme with interactive workshops and dialogues. The forum’s highlight will be the Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards, which will take place on the second evening to celebrate outstanding contributions to legacy building.”

Meanwhile, Dato Sri Abang Haji Abdul Karim bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chairman of BESarawak, stated that “LEGACY360 is about building the future through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to doing better. The bold vision is that business event legacies will lead Sarawak into a new frontier of local and national economic and social development.”

“This is an exciting final year of the Legacy Impact Master Action Plan 2023-2025,” said Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak. “After many years in our legacy journey, what began as a vision to define and shape the impact of business events, has now evolved into a groundbreaking reality. We are very excited to invite business event planners to host an event in Sarawak and try AI.LEGACY Intelligent Impact Management System.”
