SAS Expands Route Network with New Copenhagen-Bangkok Flight

Thailand celebrated the inaugural flight SK973 by SAS Airlines from Copenhagen to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, marking the commencement of the three-weekly Copenhagen-Bangkok winter seasonal service running from October 30, 2023, to April 2, 2024.


The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) organized a special event to celebrate the maiden flight at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The event was attended by Mr. Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas, Mr. Nithee Seeprae, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, Mrs. Tina Szczyrbak, SAS Airlines Brand Activation Manager, and Mr. Anders Wahlström, SAS Regional General Manager of Asia & Pacific.


Mr. Siripakorn expressed that SAS’s new direct service between Copenhagen and Bangkok is perfectly timed as Thailand enters the high season. He says, “The flight will offer added option for air passengers from Scandinavia to travel to Thailand for the warm and sunny climate, and friendliness of the Thai people.”


In a special ceremony co-hosted by Scandinavian Airlines and the TAT Stockholm Office, SAS Flight SK973 was launched from Copenhagen.The flight from Copenhagen departs at 23:30 Hrs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, arriving in Bangkok on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 17:05 Hrs. The return flight from Bangkok departs on the same day at 23:45 Hrs. and arrives in Copenhagen the next day at 06:35 Hrs.


Mrs. Szczyrbak said “Thailand and the Scandinavian countries have a long history of friendship and cooperation, and this flight marks the return of direct flights between the two cities after 10 years. The Bangkok route will offer a perfect entry point for wider Thailand access and be a great option for both business and leisure travellers.”


In addition to the 19,800 seats on SAS’s Copenhagen-Bangkok flight, the total air seat capacity between Scandinavian countries and Thailand for this year amounts to 354,586 seats.


In Thailand’s first nine months of this year, there were 254,417 visitors from Scandinavia. By year’s end, 404,452 visitors are anticipated, bringing in about 39.3 billion Baht in revenue. Scandinavian tourists to Thailand stayed for 18.56 days on average and spent roughly 5,400 Baht a day.
