Singapore Crowned World’s Most Innovative Country in Global Innovation Ranking

Singapore has claimed the title of the world’s most innovative country, securing the top spot in the latest Global Innovation Scorecard, a comprehensive ranking that evaluates nations based on diverse factors such as workforce education levels and the rate of new business creation.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for the Republic, as it surpassed the United States to lead the biennial ranking. Compiled by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) since 2019, the scorecard analyzed 74 countries alongside the European Union for its 2025 edition.

A Remarkable Leap in Rankings

Singapore’s rise to the top is especially noteworthy, as it leapt from its 15th position in 2023 to claim first place. Among 25 countries designated as Global Innovation Champions, Singapore achieved the highest composite score, reflecting its robust policies and cutting-edge innovations.

Rounding out the top five were the United States, New Zealand, Sweden, and Switzerland, showcasing a diverse mix of global leaders in innovation.

Recognition on the Global Stage

Singapore’s recognition as the most innovative country was celebrated on January 9, 2025, during CES, the world’s largest tech fair, held in Las Vegas. Formerly known as the Consumer Electronics Show, CES serves as a global platform where companies unveil groundbreaking products and technologies. The four-day event concludes on January 10.

The Global Innovation Scorecard: Key Highlights

The latest Global Innovation Scorecard incorporated 56 indicators, up from 40 in 2023, drawing on data from reputable sources like the World Trade Organization, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

Singapore excelled in several categories, achieving top scores in four critical areas:

• Business environment resilience and data transparency
• Pro-innovation legal framework
• Support for start-ups and small businesses
• Tax-friendly policies for companies

In addition, Singapore demonstrated strong performance in:

• Workforce diversity, encompassing ethnic and immigrant representation.
• Openness to telehealth and cross-border data flows.
• Broadband infrastructure and speeds.
