Slovenia is set to showcase its cultural and sustainable tourism highlights at ITB Berlin 2024, the foremost international tourism expo, scheduled for 5-7 March 2024. This year, Slovenia’s exhibition will emphasize its rich arts and cultural offerings, with a special spotlight on Nova Gorica, poised to be the European Capital of Culture in 2025 alongside Italy’s Gorizia. Furthermore, Slovenia will underscore its leading role in promoting sustainable tourism practices.

Scheduled to welcome approximately 24,000 attendees, ITB Berlin stands as the global pinnacle for the tourism industry, catering exclusively to professionals. The event will feature an array of expert-led discussions across four stages and 17 specialized areas, all themed “Define the World of Travel. Together.”

Rebeka Kumer Bizjak, Head of the STB Representation in Germany, highlighted: “ITB Berlin is not only a great opportunity to address the German market – the most important foreign market for Slovenian tourism, where we achieved excellent results last year with an over 24% growth in overnight stays compared to 2019. Nova Gorica, set to be the European Capital of Culture 2025 alongside Gorizia, will highlight its rich cultural heritage and contemporary artistic currents that cross geographical and mental borders. Selected journalists and members of the professional public will also get to know Slovenia better through interesting talks in the more intimate ‘living room’ of our new exhibition space, while invited guests will feel its pulse at the I Feel Slovenia Evening. We look forward to an exciting event and to new and deeper business ties.”

Slovenia to present 26 destinations and suppliers at ITB Berlin

Slovenia is set to make a significant impact at ITB Berlin with an innovative new stand featuring advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence. This stand will offer cozy spaces for detailed conversations and events, all while committing to eco-friendly practices. This approach aims to highlight Slovenia’s tourism appeal both at the event and on digital platforms.

Located in Hub 27, a key area for German-speaking regions and neighbors to Liechtenstein, the Slovenian exhibition will be in good company. Notably, it will share the space with major German transportation entities and airports such as Deutsche Bahn, Fraport, BER, and Flughafen Köln/Bonn.

The showcase from Slovenia will include 26 distinct destinations, associations, and businesses, among them the Portorož Tourist Board, the Šalek Valley Tourism Board, and the Nova Gorica and Vipava Valley Tourism Board, to name a few. Attendees will discover offerings from Maribor Tourism Board, Ljubljana Tourism, the Julian Alps, and many others, including renowned spas, travel agencies, and cultural sites like the Postojna Cave and Lipica Stud Farm.

A special highlight will be Nova Gorica, poised to become the European Capital of Culture in 2025 alongside Italy’s Gorizia. Visitors will have the chance to virtually explore Europe Square, a symbolic space linking the two Gorizas. Additionally, guests can take home unique prints by the distinguished graphic designer and visual artist, Zora Stančič, featuring the theme GO! BORDERLESS.

The Slovenian booth will host engaging discussions on tourism, arts, and culture, designed for an exclusive audience of journalists, specialists, and industry frontrunners. These in-depth conversations will occur in a specially arranged lounge area, enhanced with headphones for an immersive experience.

On Wednesday, March 6, ITB Berlin will once again present the esteemed Golden City Gate Awards. These awards celebrate outstanding achievements in tourism marketing and communication, showcasing the creativity and innovation within the industry.

Additionally, on the same day, the ceremony for the Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards will be held. Notably, three Slovenian locales – Miren Kras, Brežice, and Šalek Valley – have been nominated, acknowledging their exceptional dedication to sustainable tourism initiatives.
