Sound Transit has announced a significant milestone in its infrastructure development with the upcoming opening of the first segment of the Eastside Link, an extension of the 2 Line, on April 27. The inauguration will commence with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Bellevue Downtown Station on 594 110th Ave. NE, followed by engaging activities at each station.

The initial section of the Eastside Link will stretch from the Redmond Technology Station at 15590 NE 36th St. to the South Bellevue Station on Bellevue Way Southeast, encompassing eight stops. Operating from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., trains will run at 10-minute intervals.

Sound Transit has revealed ticket fares ranging from $2.25 to $2.50, with complimentary parking facilities at the Redmond Technology, BelRed, and South Bellevue stations, along with bike parking at every station.

Once fully operational, the Eastside Link will span from the Downtown Redmond Station to the Seattle International District/Chinatown Station, with completion anticipated by 2025 for the remaining segments.

Covering a distance of 14 miles and comprising 10 stations, the Eastside Link will significantly reduce travel time, with a journey from Redmond Technology Station to the International District/Chinatown Station estimated to take just 35 minutes.

This extension will seamlessly connect two parts of the 2 Line, facilitating direct travel from Redmond to Northgate. The expansion is expected to enhance accessibility to various amenities, including employment, education, and entertainment, both locally and regionally.

Sound Transit envisions further expansion with projects such as the South Kirkland-Issaquah Link, projected for completion by 2041 or 2044, offering enhanced connectivity and accessibility for residents and businesses.

Preparatory measures, including community engagement initiatives and alignment with urban development plans, are underway to ensure a seamless integration of the Link with existing infrastructure and community needs.

In essence, the Eastside Link represents a transformative leap in transportation, fostering sustainability, connectivity, and economic growth, while catering to the evolving needs of residents and businesses alike.
