SpiceJet launches direct flights from Feb 2024, connecting Ayodhya to Mumbai, Bengaluru & Chennai with 189-seat Boeing 737s, boosting connectivity.

Starting February 2024, SpiceJet will introduce direct flights connecting the historic city of Ayodhya with Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. This expansion will feature the use of the 189-seat Boeing 737 aircraft to serve these routes. The announcement follows closely on the heels of a special service operated by SpiceJet from Delhi to Ayodhya on January 21, primarily to facilitate travel for those attending the significant Ram Temple dedication event on January 22.

In a statement, SpiceJet expressed its delight in launching these direct connections, emphasizing their commitment to improving connectivity and providing convenient travel alternatives. Shilpa Bhatia, SpiceJet’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the company’s dedication to expanding its network to include more Indian cities, offering direct flights for an effortless and comfortable journey.

Recently, IndiGo too commenced direct services between Mumbai and Ayodhya starting January 15, as well as between Delhi and Ayodhya. Additionally, Air India Express plans to begin operations on the Delhi-Ayodhya route starting January 16.

The inauguration of the new Ayodhya Airport, named Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, by the Prime Minister on December 30, 2023, marked a significant development. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, anticipates that approximately 100 chartered flights will arrive at the Ayodhya airport for the Ram temple dedication ceremony.

As the Ram Temple consecration ceremony approaches, flight prices have surged. Indiver Rastogi, President & Group Head of Global Business Travel at Thomas Cook (India) and SOTC Travel, noted that airfares to Ayodhya from major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai are currently ranging from around ₹20,000 to over ₹30,000. He also observed that direct return fares to Ayodhya during the week of January 22 are 30-70% higher compared to average return fares to nearby cities like Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur.
