Sri Lanka’s tourism industry aims to attract 2 million tourists in 2023, up from the previous target of 1.5 million, a news agency reports.

Also, according to another news agency, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman Priantha Fernando told the media that the SLTDA has revised its projections according to a good trend in the first quarter of the year.

Sri Lanka has already exceeded its March 2023 target, with over 112,000 tourists visiting in the first 28 days of the month, the first time the island nation has welcomed over 100,000 tourists for three consecutive months since 2019.

According to him, Sri Lanka has received around 323,000 tourists so far this year.

Tourism, one of Sri Lanka’s leading foreign exchange earners, has suffered a setback due to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic and political crises in the country.
