This comprises for almost 20% of all tourists coming to the island.

Sri Lanka in general witnessed tourist arrivals to exceed the million mark by the end of last month.

In the period up to September 2023, earnings from tourism have increased to 1.5 billion USD.

After 2019, the sector saw a drop due to pandemic, Easter bombing, and the ensuing lockdown caused by COVID-19 situation.

The connectivity between the two countries has got much better in the last couple of months as air travel started once again between Chennai and Jaffna in December 2022.

From 2023, air services were made daily in June. This week, tourism saw completion of 200 journeys.

Also, connectivity between Colombo and Mumbai has got better with everyday flights services operating on the sector.

Besides, ferry services between Nagapattinam and Kankesanthurai are likely to start very soon.
