The Saudi Red Sea Authority partners with the Heritage Commission to enhance coastal and heritage tourism, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 goals.

The Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA), a pivotal organization responsible for facilitating and regulating coastal tourism along the Kingdom’s Red Sea coastline, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Heritage Commission, the authority tasked with overseeing and fostering the heritage sector within the Kingdom. This partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to establish a collaborative framework in areas where both entities have overlapping interests and responsibilities.

This agreement is in harmony with SRSA’s objective to manage the issuance of licenses and permits for maritime and navigational activities. It also aims to foster cooperation and share insights with both local and global entities, enhancing the appeal of marine and navigational tourism in the Red Sea to attract enthusiasts.

The MoU signing ceremony saw SRSA’s representation by its Acting CEO, Mohammed Al-Asiri, and the Heritage Commission by its CEO, Dr. Jasser bin Suleiman Al-Harbash.

Key aspects of the MoU include the mutual exchange of knowledge and expertise relevant to the parties’ fields of work, particularly concerning the Red Sea’s underwater cultural heritage. The agreement emphasizes collaborative efforts in drafting regulations that align with their shared objectives, overseeing the issuance of permits for marine and underwater heritage surveys and excavations, implementing conservation strategies for marine heritage, aiding in the documentation of the Red Sea’s marine and submerged heritage, and fostering technical collaboration to meet common aims.

Furthermore, the MoU promotes cooperation in preserving intangible cultural heritage by supporting the recognition of sites under the Authority’s purview on the UNESCO World Heritage List, sharing data on such sites, coordinating community awareness initiatives, and launching projects to elevate cultural heritage and marine heritage as key aspects of intangible cultural heritage, alongside boosting marine tourism and recreational pursuits.

This memorandum signifies SRSA’s dedication to broadening its strategic alliances, exchanging knowledge, and adopting best practices to enhance coastal tourism, champion sustainable development, and showcase the Red Sea as a premier international tourist spot. This initiative also aims to safeguard the natural environment and underscore the Kingdom’s critical role as a cultural beacon, aligning with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
