ITB Berlin shines as a future-focused forum, with AI insights and Albania as the 2025 host, showcasing global travel trends and innovations.

In 2024, indicators strongly suggest a prosperous year ahead: the premier global event for the travel industry emphasized its commitment to leading the way in shaping the future, establishing itself once again as the foremost global platform for commerce, innovation, and connection. Despite the challenges posed by widespread industrial actions, this year’s ITB Berlin witnessed a modest uptick in attendance, with close to 100,000 participants—surpassing expectations under the tough circumstances of strikes. With its diverse international presence, over 5,500 exhibitors from 170 nations brightened the event across three days, fully booking all 27 halls of the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.

The travel sector’s role as an innovator was clearly demonstrated at the ITB Berlin Convention, which ran concurrently with the expo. The convention featured esteemed participants and boasted 400 notable global speakers across 200 sessions and 17 thematic areas, exploring the latest trends and breakthroughs. In total, approximately 24,000 people engaged in the various panels, discussions, keynote addresses, and presentations, reinforcing the convention’s status as the premier global forum for thought leadership in the industry.

The industry continues its trajectory towards achievement

The ITB Buyers Circle, which included 1,300 top buyers, acted as a gauge for the industry’s health, emphasizing the significance of the event as a pivotal marketplace. In collaboration with Dr. Fried & Partner management consultants, ITB Berlin launched the inaugural Global Travel Buyer Index. This poll, involving several hundred members of the Buyers Circle, inquired about the current economic climate and their business aspirations. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, indicating a buoyant market outlook and an optimistic forecast for the coming six months.

High engagement from media and political figures

The event attracted significant attention from both the media and political spheres, with around 3,200 accredited journalists from 103 countries and over 300 bloggers covering ITB Berlin. As a hub for global tourism, the trade show served as a gathering point for political figures and diplomats worldwide. This year’s event welcomed a host of delegations, including nearly 80 ministers and state secretaries, along with 72 ambassadors, highlighting ITB Berlin’s significance as a global meeting point.

The ITB Berlin Convention emphasizes its position as a visionary hub for strategic insights.

The ITB Berlin Convention highlighted its position as a pioneering center for thought leadership, with artificial intelligence (AI) being a standout topic of discussion. A dedicated AI segment made its debut at the convention, garnering enthusiastic feedback from the 24,000 participants, reinforcing the notion that AI is indispensable for every entity in today’s landscape.

The recent geopolitical tensions, including the conflict in Ukraine and new disturbances in the Middle East, have compounded the challenge of pursuing sustainability. Despite these issues, Ukraine, Israel, and Palestine were present at ITB Berlin, with Israel’s tourism minister advocating for increased travel to the region and the lifting of travel advisories during their press briefing.

Post-pandemic recovery showed a promising turn in the Asia-Pacific market for the first time since 2023. China, marking its return to the convention, highlighted its open-door policy by streamlining visa processes for visitors from certain countries. This development left ITB Berlin participants optimistic about the year’s prospects, looking forward to a surge in business and advance reservations, particularly for the summer of 2024.

The exhibition saw a positive trend in hall utilization, with the reopening of five renovated halls facilitating numerous enhancements and changes. For the first instance, German-speaking nations shared a single space in hub27. Welcoming back China, Liechtenstein, and Emirates airline, the event also introduced first-timers such as Dominica, the Cayman Islands, and Disney Cruise Lines. An increase in exhibition space was evident, with popular destinations like Italy, Greece, and Turkey, as well as representatives from Asia, the Arab world, and Africa, expanding their presence. The Travel Tech sector saw growth, and the Mobility and Cruise segments continued to attract attention due to their enduring appeal.

Looking forward to ITB Berlin 2025, Albania is set to be the spotlighted host country

This partnership was formalized on the second day of the ITB Berlin event, highlighting Albania’s promising prospects as a rising tourist destination. The agreement was a follow-up to a prior announcement of collaboration.

The forthcoming ITB Berlin is scheduled to run from 4 to 6 March 2025, continuing as a business-to-business (B2B) gathering at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.
