The pandemic created a major drop in air travel due to restrictions in travel and guidance of recommending people to stay at home. Nevertheless, with the end of the pandemic situation, air travel is slowly reviving. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has forecasted that in 2023, worldwide air passenger traffic would reach 88% of its pre-pandemic level. Different factors motivate the growth in air travel, comprising border reopening, the simplification of travel restrictions, and the repressed travel demand.

Improved air traffic has caused expansion of current airports and creating of new ones. Over 200 new airports in 2022, were under construction, and the next few years, this number will grow multifold. The necessity to house rising volumes of passenger and offer passengers with a positive experience in travel is driving airport growth and development.

With increased passenger volumes, the growth and expansion of airports which are existing at this moment, and the creation of new ones, the necessity for new, ground-breaking airport security solutions is increasing with time. On time the airports must efficiently screen travelers and their possessions at the same time upholding the highest security standards. These necessities are driving the growth of new technologies, like biometric identification and AI, to progress airport security.
