Taiwan Tourism BureauToday at a joint press conference, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau and the Penghu County Government is all set to endorse Penghu archipelago of Taiwan as an effort of the tourism bureau’s ‘Year of Bay Tourism’ plan for 2018. This proposal creates part of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s “Tourism 2020-Taiwanese Sustainable Tourism Development Program” which has been created in response to the world trend of sustainable tourism.

The aim of the ‘Year of Bay Tourism’ programme is to emphasize the marine tourism assets of Taiwan by enthusing tourists to discover the 10 major islands of the country, launch island eco-tourism, and increase appreciation and awareness to the locals and visitors in terms of protecting marine ecology. Of the 10 islands, three are situated in Penghu: Qimei, Yuweng and Jibe.

Through this plan, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau and the Penghu County Government expects to grow the sustainable development of tourism resources and expand the bay tourism market, spread awareness in terms of clean ecological activities in Penghu’s bays, endorse regional tourism to southern Taiwan and revitalize the development plan of national tourism.

As per Taiwan Tourism Bureau Director-General Joe Y. Chou, in general, the marketing of the 2018 ‘Year of Bay Tourism’ will adhere to three major themes: ‘Seasonal Events Highlights’, ‘Wonderful Tour GO Experience’ and ‘Continuous Promotion’. Efforts will be targeted on developing a sightseeing resources inventory, integrating local industries, packaging tourism products, developing peripheral products, marketing domestically and overseas and developing source markets to boost up growth in the tourism industry as a whole.
