As reported monday was a critical moment for groups trying to get millions of tourist tax dollars in Orange County.
Members of the Tourist Development Tax Citizen Advisory Task Force have completed surveys ranking 11 of the proposed projects according to three criteria: whether it would increase tourism in Orange County, whether the project is sound, and what kind of return on investment it would bring.
Orange County resident Frank Gilbert stated that tourism is the goose that lays the golden egg in Orange County.
The task force voted and approved a motion to recommend the county leaders that the top five ranking groups should get some tourism tax money.
• Orange County Convention Center – for improvement projects
• Florida Citrus Sports – to build a roof on Camping World Stadium
• Amway Center – for renovations
• Dr. Philips Center – for front lawn enhancements
• UCF Sports – to construct a sports village
The executive director of the Association to Preserve the Eatonville Community, N.Y.Nathiri, stated that the glass for them is half full. Not half empty.
PEC requested $88 million to build a Zora Neale Hurston campus in Eatonville.
Nathriri added that they were identified as a group that needs more work, and they very excited because there seems to be a commitment.
