International tourism is well on its way to recuperate and reach the levels of the pre-pandemic times, with twice as many people opting to travel in the first quarter of this year compared to last year. The 2023’s second UNWTO World Tourism Barometer pinpoints the fact that the speedy recovery of tourism has continued in 2023 as well. It shows that in the first quarter of 2023, international arrivals reached 80% of the levels of pre-pandemic times in general. The prediction for this fiscal is that tourism will reach $9.5TN. This would be just 5% below 2019 pre-covid times when travel was at its highest peak. In the meantime, by now, 34 countries have exceeded the levels of 2019.

As per a study carried on by WTTC in partnership with Oxford Economics, also predicts that tourism will recuperate by up to 95% of the 2019 job level. A roughly 235 million tourists in the first three months of 2023 toured internationally. This was more than double the same figure of last year. It shows that tourism has continued to show its flexibility. Amended information for last year shows more than 960 million tourists travelling to various countries in 2022, involving two-thirds of the numbers of pre-pandemic times were revived.

In spite of the financial and geopolitical difficulties, in 2022, the revival of travel and tourism continued to move ahead, growing 22% annually to reach $7.7TN.
