Tivoli Hotels & Resorts to Unveil Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia Hotel, a Blend of Timeless Luxury and Wine-Country Charm in 2025

Published on September 30, 2024

Tivoli Hotels & Resorts is expanding its footprint in Portugal with the upcoming debut of Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia Hotel, set to open in early 2025. Located on the south bank of the Douro River in Gaia, this wine-country retreat promises to elevate luxury hospitality in northern Portugal, blending Tivoli’s timeless travel tradition with the rich heritage of Kopke, the world’s oldest Port Wine House, founded in 1638.

The new hotel, currently under development, will cater to both business and leisure guests, offering 150 elegantly designed guest rooms, including 10 suites. Guests can enjoy a variety of amenities, including two restaurants, three bars, two swimming pools, and a Tivoli Shape fitness center. The property also boasts extensive event facilities, featuring six meeting rooms and 97,000 square feet of beautifully landscaped gardens for special occasions. Additionally, the hotel will house a signature Tivoli Spa, offering personalized treatments inspired by the region’s natural elements.

Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia Hotel is nestled on the hillside of Gaia, within a historic Port Wine cellar that will play a central role in the hotel experience. Offering breathtaking views of Porto, including the traditional Cais da Ribeira and the iconic Luís I Bridge, the hotel is just a short walk from major attractions and provides easy access to Gaia’s vibrant riverfront, filled with restaurants, bars, and shops. The city of Porto is only minutes away on foot, or guests can reach it via the nearby Devesas train station, while Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is just a 30-minute drive from the hotel.

The hotel’s construction is being meticulously designed to honor the legacy of Kopke, a brand that predates the Douro wine region itself and leads in the production of tawny and white port. The adjoining Kopke Port Wine cellar will be a standout feature, offering guests an immersive experience in the world of one of the most renowned fortified wines—port.

Guests will also be treated to exceptional culinary experiences, including a fine-dining restaurant led by a celebrated chef, along with a relaxed all-day dining venue, a wine bar, and a rooftop bar offering panoramic views of the Douro River and Porto, complete with the sight of traditional Rabelo boats.

Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International and CEO of Minor Hotels, the parent company of Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, commented, “We are delighted to announce this exciting upcoming addition to the Tivoli portfolio in the Porto region with a truly special partnership with Kopke. With a beautiful and privileged location, this property will offer exceptional facilities to both business and leisure guests, connecting them with the world of port wine in a very exclusive way. We are honored to be working with the team at Kopke to bring this property to fruition.”

Founded in 1933 in Lisbon, Tivoli Hotels & Resorts has built a reputation for its rich cultural heritage and deep connection to each location it calls home. Originally established in Portugal, the brand has since expanded internationally to Brazil, Qatar, and China, while more recently extending its presence across Europe with debut properties in Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands. Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia will mark the brand’s ninth property in Portugal, further cementing its legacy in its home country.
