The tourism department of Goa has issued an order providing a 50% waiver on registration and renewal fees for various tourist trade activities. Shack operators along with other service providers had demanded a reprievewith the last two seasons affected severely.
The petition was also made since the department had implemented a new fee structure, increasing them for various services, rationalizing charges. Services that were left out were also brought under the influence of the law.
Stakeholders urged the government to keep the implementation of the new fees on hold until the situation got better.
The government finally decided to offer a 50% waiver as a substitute.
Last season, only beach shack operators received a discount on license fees. This year, the benefit has been given to more services.
Among those entitled to receive 50% relief in registration and renewal fees are ‘C’ and ‘D’ category hotels, dealers, travel agents and tour operators, watersports activities, private shacks and huts, photographers, tourist guides, deck beds and umbrellas, adventure sports activities and spice plantations.
Fees already paid for the financial year 2021-22 will be adjusted against that payable for the next year, as per order issued by tourism director Menino D’Souza.
